World No Tobacco Day 2017

31st May is observed as World No Tobacco Day. Little Star Hr. Sec. School joined the No Tobacco campaign and created awareness on tobacco with skit, presentation and competitions. Consumption of tobacco is a serious condition in Nagaland because Nagaland is the 2nd highest consumer of tobacco in India. Dr. Temjennungsang of Dental Touch during his presentation said that every 6 seconds a person dies due to tobacco. The students during the skit showed how to resist negative peer pressure and the harmful effects of tobacco in the life of an individual. A slogan writing competition was conducted later during the day. In continuation of the observation of World No Tobacco Day, a quiz competition and a painting competition was held on Saturday.

Tobacco facts :

  1. According to WHO, children account for 28% of the deaths attributed to secondhand smoking.
  2. India has one of the highest tobacco users in the world.
  3. Highest prevalence of tobacco use in any form is among adolescents aged 13-15 years.
  4. Smokeless tobacco is highly addictive and causes head, neck, oesophagus and pancreas, besides many oral diseases.

Spring Fest. hosted by the students of Classes 1 & 2

Spring Fest was a colourful event hosted by the students of Classes 1 & 2 on Saturday, 25th March. The parents were invited to view the students’ performances and to visit the stalls. It was an exciting show featuring spring fashion, dance, songs and poem. The chairpersons and comperes from Classes 1 and 2 kept the momentum of the program and hosted it flawlessly.

Another highlight of the day was the flower and crafts exhibition. The exhibition included a flower show and showcasing of spring’s fruits and vegetables along with craft items like dream catcher, paper mask and pressed flower art.

A parent commented that it was one of a kind and probably the first in Nagaland. Another parent lauded the creativity of the teachers and students.

The Spring Fest. was a wonderful platform for the Classes 1 and 2 students to display their talents and gain confidence as they perform on the stage and interact with the parents at the stalls.
